Bell 407 Long Ranger

This Bell 407 is a great addition to the OF helicopter fuselage line. This 407 is a craftsman model that will accomodate 60-90 up through turbine mechanics. There is plenty of room inside for a completely detailed cockpit and can be modeled after full scale versions from nearly every industry. Its four blade configuration will make it a very stable model to fly yet simple to maintain.

The Bell 407 is a highly maneuverable, four-bladed, light helicopter that performs well in hot and high altitude environments as well as in Artic conditions. Its first flight was in 1995 and entered full service shortly afterwards in 1996. In August 2005, the United States Army selected a version of the Bell 407 for its Armed Reconnaissance helicopter to start replacing the aging Bell OH-58, more commonly known as the Kiowa Warrior. Nearly 368 Bell 407 helicopters are due to be constructed between 2006 and 2013 and will be fitted with a modest armament package consisting of 70mm folding fin aerial rockets, Hellfire 'fire and forget' missiles and a rotary cannon mounted under the nose.

As compared to the US Military, the Bell 407 is a very popular, reliable and versatile, modern, lightweight helicopter that is used by many industries including private corporations, emergency medical services, law enforcement, fire suppression, and in general utility roles. It is highly configurable and is very stable and quiet in flight due in part to its soft-mount pylon isolation four-blade, rotor head system. Having a crusing speed of 224km/h and a range of 613km which works out to an average flight time of just over 4.25 hours, the Bell407 is an ideal choice for efficiency and economy. In standard configuration it seats 5 but can accomodate up to 7. When fitted with a cargo hook it has an active payload of 1500Kg. This single engine helicopter is powered by a very reliable Rolls Royce 250-C47B turboshaft engine that will be upgraded in 2007 to the Honeywell HTS900.

Whether you prefer the military or civilian version, the Bell407 will be an awesome scale flying model with OF's 4 blade rotor head and its completely scale two blade tail. It is great to work on, as the openings and windows are large enough to fit your hands easily inside and there is enough space to add a completely detailed cockpit. While each modeler decides how much detail is added, our photographs display an awesome example of how much detail is possible. New modelers should be aware that between opening your new OF Bell407 fuselage box and finishing the model to the level shown in the photographs can take between 6 to 12 months, depending on how much time you can commit to building and finishing.
