AH-Mk1 Scout LM1009
Len Mount has once again created an awesome scale model of a Westland AH-Mk1 Scout
helicopter which is perfectly suited for installing a Jakadofsky PJW series turbine engine. Modelers
interested in a turbine scale models will be pleased with both its uniqueness among model helicopters
and the sheer amount of detailing that is possible with turbine models.
LM1009 AH-Mk1 Scout 1/5th Scale Fuselage for PJW Turbine $2,410.00
In the mid 1950's Westland Aircraft Limited designed the Wasp and later the Scout
based from the original Saunders-Roe ("Saro") P.531 helicopter. Upon acquisition of Saunders-Roe, Westland
built both the Wasp and the Scout, with the Scout's first flight in August 4th, 1960. Powered by a 1,050 shp
Rolls-Royce (RR having acquired Bristol Siddeley) Nimbus 101 engine, the Scout was designed as a light utility
helicopter for the British Army. The cockpit seated a pilot and passenger in the front seats, with space on
the back bench for 3 more people. It was well suited for observation, laison, training and SAR (search and rescue)
roles. In SAR operations, two stretchers would be mounted on the skid undercarriage and two more in the back
of the cabin. While most commonly used in SAR, the Scout was also tasked a light attack helicopter when fitted
with two L7 GP machine guns and up to 4 SS.11 anti-tank guided missiles.
This AH-Mk1 Scout model has been designed for the Jakadofsky PJW series turbine engine along with Len Mount's
turbine mechanics. As with Len's other turbine fuselages, the Scout is a dream to work on, as the openings and
windows are large enough to fit your hands easily inside and there is enough space to add a completely detailed
cockpit and interior. While each modeler decides how much detail is added, our browser section displays an
awesome example of how much detail is possible.
New modelers should be aware that between opening your new AH-Mk1 Scout fuselage box and
finishing the model to the level shown in the gallery can take between 3 to 18 months, depending on how much
time you can commit to building and finishing.
