The Xtrem Deluxe Dual lighting system includes both the Xtrem 6 remote module and the Xtrem 3 flashing module. To keep pricing
reasonable, separate modules were produced to offer the widest configuration possible by mixing up to 5 flashing lights that can have two distinctively different
flashing rates and 4 solid lights that can be turned on and off in block pairs through the Xtrem 6 remote module. Included with the lighting system are 6 Luxeon high power LEDs
which will use up 6 of the available 9 connections. An additional 3 Luxeon LED leads can be purchased to utilize all 9 light connections.
Xtrem 6 Module:
The Xtrem 6 Module consists of 6 outputs that are divided into two blocks of 2 solid for a total of 4 solid and one block of 2 flashing. An adjustment pot is used
to change the flashing rate on the flashing output block. The four solid outputs can be remotely turned on and off from the receiver using a auxillary channel that
has either a two position or three position switch. When the unit is switched on, the flasher LEDs start immediately while the solid LEDs are initially off until
they are turned on from the transmitter. By moving the transmitter switch a simple toggle operation occurs in the module's microprocessor, if the LEDs are off, they
turn on. If the LEDs are on they turn off. The operation of the remotely controlled solid LEDs changes depending on whether a two position or three position toggle switch
is used.
3 Position Transmitter Switch:
A 3 position switch has the most flexibility as block 1 & 2 can be independently switched on or off. This allows the common lighting pattern of a Red/Green pair for side
navigation lights and White landing light(s). The Xtrem module allows either one or two LEDs to be used. Turn on the transmitter and move the 3 position switch to its centered
or neutral position, switch on the receiver and finally the master switch for the lighting module. Toggle the transmitter switch to the upper position and and return to the center, block 1 turns on. Toggle the
switch to the bottom and block 2 turns on. It is best to remember to return the switch to its centered position after each toggle. |

2 Position Transmitter Switch:
When the module is used with a 2 position switch, like the gear switch on most transmitters both blocks 1 & 2 are switched together. First turn on the transmitter, then the
receiver and finally the master switch for the lighting module. The flashing LEDs start immediately and the solid LEDs are off. Toggle the switch and both the Red/Green navigation and the White landing
lights turn on. Toggle the switch again and all four turn off. |

Xtrem 3 Flasher Module
The Xtrem 3 Flasher Module consist of one block of 3 flashing outputs. The flashing pattern is two flashes then a pause. An adjustment pot is used to change the flashing rate and
simply changes the time of the pause. When the unit is switched on, the flasher LEDs start immediately.
Wiring:
The Xtrem 6 Module has 6 outputs which are composed of a wiring pair for each LED. LEDs need to be soldered in place matching the positive and negative polarity which
is easy to do by simply aligning the black stripe on the insulation. Experienced modelers should consider using a polarity protected modular connector. Good soldering
skills are recommended using Rosin Core Solder. Heat shrink tubing is provided for each individual wire connection. Two inputs are provided with standard connectors.
The receiver connector is a standard JR type of servo lead which is compatible with most major radio brands. If you have an old Airtronics (pre 'Z' connnectors) or another
radio system that uses non standard polarity or different connectors then you should manually confirm and match the wires as follows. Xtrem Tx connector (Brown = negative,
Red = positive, Orange = signal).
The input power lead and connector for the LEDs is a standard female servo connector commonly found on Rx receiver switch harnesses and accepts a standard servo connector
from a 4.8V ~ 6.0V dedicated battery pack consisting of 4-5 cells. However a 2S Lithium Polymer battery can be used. Never connect the lighting module to the model's
receiver battery, the module consumers a lot of power and can put your model at risk of radio lockout or complete battery failure in flight. Normally in any lighting
installation in a scale model it is highly recommended to install a good quality mechanical switch, dedicated battery pack and charging receptacle for lighting and any other
scale accessories that will be used on the the model. If a Lithium Polymer battery is going to be used for lighting or any accessories, make sure you can easily remove the
battery completely from the model. Charging Lithium Polymer batteries can be very dangerous and have caused fires. Charging should monitored, contained in a fireproof container
and isolated away from any flammable materials. |
