Apache 50 Longbow Conversion
AP105

The Apache Longbow conversion kit is a upgrade to the avionics bays which are mounted below the cockpit and run from the nose to the rear of the armament stub wings. The avionics bays are the only obvious differences in this conversion between the AH-64A and 64D Apache variants when looking at the fuselage. Simply exchange the parts in the Apache 50 fuselage kit during assembly.

AP105  AH-64D Apache 50 Longbow Conversion Kit  $36.95

:: overview

The Apache AH-64D Longbow is the modern variant of the attack helicopter introduced with improved sensors, fire control systems and the sharing of targeting data amongst a group of D-Variant Apaches. This enables the group to engage multiple targets from concealed positions while only a single D-Variant Apache exposes its elevated radome from behind cover (trees, cliffs, buildings) thus concealing the entire helicopter.

As only a single radome is required within a group of Apaches, the D-Variant is commonly seen without the radome installed but can still be distinguished by its avionics bays and improved sensor suite on the fuselage. A new composite rotor blade system completed testing in 2004, improving the Apache's cruise speed, rate of climb and payload capacity and the majority of the D-Variant upgrades past 2008 improve on the digital communication within the tactical intranet.

Apache 50 Longbow Conversion Kit Features:

  • Precision laser cut wood components for avionics bays.
  • Full size building plan with instructions.
  • Designed for the AP100 Apache AH-64A fuselage kit.

Front Right Side

The D-Variant avionics bays wrap around the front of the nose on the Apache and are taller than on the A-Variant. Also note that the right and left side of the bays different and care must be taken during assembly to build one left and one right.
Right Profile

The avionics bays are distinctly segmented as they run from the the front of the fuselage to behind the stub wings. The right side runs flat under the stub wing as compared to the right that is angled and is flush with the leading edge of the stub wing before jogging below it.
Rear Left Side

Most noticeable is the larger segment at the rear of the avionic's bay that is both taller and flairs outward and at an angle from the fuselage. This rear portion is the same on both left and right sides.
