AH-1F Cobra
AP101

This fuselage is the eCobra's big brother. Designed for larger models which commonly have a better power to weight ratio, the modeler is less restricted to detail the fuselage and add scale effects. Creative modelers will be able to integrate scale details to internalize accessories for fuel powered models and maintain a magnificent scale Cobra fuselage.

The following items are broken down to give you a clearer view of the items that are required to complete the model. Due to the narrow fuselage width, some models will work and some will not. The best check is to measure your helicopter mechanics at its widest point, normally it is at the main gear or the lower mechanics. The distance from the bottom of the fuselage to the top circular hole is 10 3/4" [27.3cm] which provides plenty of space for mechanics. The internal maximum width for this fuselage is 4 7/8" [12.4cm].

If your mechanics are slightly wider 3/16"~5/16" [5-8mm] then it is still possible to fit, but you will need to be creative in adding a detail to the outside to "hide" the extra width or relocate the problematic parts on the mechanics, but this is not alway possible. Being that this is built up fuselage, making this type of change is simple and easy as you can see the interference problems. In a fiberglass fuselage, it is usually a fight right from the beginning just to remove enough parts just to get the mechanics to sit in the basic fuselage.

Most of our finished product photos for this model show the Cobra with fuel powered mechanics using regular sport landing struts and skids. The Cobra includes Aluminum landing gear which greatly improves its scale appearance but it may not be suitable for novice pilots. Modelers building the Cobra should consider using sport landing gear until after the model has been trimmed and run-in during the recommended 1 hour of hovering maneuvers. Once satisified with its flight performance and there is no overheating, the Aluminum landing gear can be fitted and you can enjoy your Cobra.

Under "Other Equipment" we list the radio set, type of servos, recommended gyro and other accessories that we do not carry. These are for reference and can be purchased through your favorite hobby shop.

Other Equipment

  • 8-10 Channel 2.4GHz transmitter and receiver.
  • Century Predator 90 or Xcell Standard or SE model helicopter.
  • Piezo gyro, heading lock & rate mode.
