Company > Website Security Procedures  Printable Version

Every online store has a security policy but what are we really talking about? There are two key areas that web site security involves, these are the transmission of personal and credit card information from your home computer to our web server and there is the storage of your personal information on our web server.

Starwood Scale Models provides a secure online shopping experience and has chosen web server software that is regularly updated and meets the standards set by both banks and merchant processors. In order to place orders through our online store, you will need to be using a security-enabled browser such as Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 or Netscape Navigator version 4.0 that will encrypt data that is sent to us when you submit your order. Using either of these browsers or newer versions ensure that your information is encrypted. Starwood Scale Models uses the industry-standard secure socket layers (SSL) for data encryption, each order that is submitted in our online store gets encrypted first, then transmitted to us. Even if the data is wrongly intercepted, the information is completely scrambled and unreadable. We take additional steps to protect your personal information that is used by our company by storing your information in an encrypted format while it is on our server.

While shopping at our online store you can protect yourself further by observing the security features that are already built into your Internet browser software. Starting with the URL bar at the top of your browser, the page address will start with "https://" indicating it is a secure connection. In Internet Explorer and newer versions of Netscape Navigator, a closed lock icon will appear in the bottom bar of the browser window. Older versions of Netscape Navigator show a solid key.

While tremendous advances in online security exist, you may still prefer not to place orders through the Internet. For our customer's that feel this way, please call and place your order over the telephone, by fax or by regular mail.

We have spent considerable effort to build a web store that is secure and we are confident that our company has aggressively taken steps to insure that your online experience is both professional and safe.
