Helicopter Scale Masters 2011 was a huge success!

Woodside, Calif., Sept 30, 2011 - This scale event attracted 36 registered pilots from across the United States and several international countries. If you had to choose one helicopter scale event, Scale Masters should first on the list for 2012. Good people, great models and plenty of awesome scale flying. We would like to personally thank Gonzalo Martinez and the Woodland Aeromodelers who made this world-class scale event a success.

Our Starwood Lama was won by Dan Lowry, who also won the People's Choice award for his incredible scale Huey. We want to thank all the modelers who entered to win the Lama. There were many good submissions and it was a difficult task to choose the winner. Many thanks to Kirsten and Dave from Vario Germany, just attending the event and talking with folks about their models really makes this event special for pilots. The event was covered by local news and Jon Tanner will have an excellent article in an upcoming edition of Model Helicopter World.

Reserve Now! Sept 23-25th for Helicopter Scale Masters!

Woodside, Calif., April 4, 2011 - Many of us miss Circumgyration. It grew from humble beginnings to become a world-class scale event, attracted modelers from many countries over the years and the event was published by several model magazines. We could not have pulled this off without the generous help and support from the Bayside R/C Club in Fremont California.

Circumgyration is gone, but we are very excited about Helicopter Scale Masters. This event is hosted by the Woodland Aeromodelers at their brand new field just outside Sacramento California. Whether you like highly detailed and historically accurate scale model helicopters or you prefer their full scale counterparts, Scale Masters will have both this year. Gonzalo Martinez is the event coordinator and has posted a website with all the pertinent information about the event. Stay in local hotels or camp on-site, no hookups, which ever you prefer. Tents are being organized, but please register in advance.

They have commitments for several full scale Huey helicopters to be on display during Saturday and they are getting the word out to invite other full scale helicopters to come by for a visit.

Participants, modelers, visitors, scale manufacturers (domestic and internationally) and the media are encouraged to attend. They have a good jump on the sponsors for the event, both ourselves and Vario Helicopter (Germany) will be in attendance. They have started to receive sponsor requests from several other mainstream model helicopter companies and will update their website as they become confirmed.

There will be no pod and boom flying at any time. This is a scale event so bring a scale model!

Proceeds from the event are being donated towards a cure for Autism.

A great first scale helicopter: Starwood's SA315B Lama.

Woodside, Calif., Feb 8, 2011 - We have known for a long time that we would eventually have our own helicopter line. Choosing the first scale helicopter was not too difficult a process because it had to use a Jakadofsky turbine. There were a few choices but we instantly decided on the classic Lama scale helicopter because it would appeal to a larger number of scale modelers. The Lama has all of the desirable characteristics that many pilots who are considering a first scale turbine model will find attractive.

Out of the box, without a single stroke of paint, our Lama looks like a finished model. The powder coated framework is flight ready or can be painted to match your favorite Lama. The majority of critical systems are fully exposed. Inspection of the main rotor, tail rotor and drive train systems is straight forward without requiring dis-assembly and the turbine engine is in its perfectly scale position.

As much as we love our Jakadofsky turbines, we also recognize there is a growing market for large electric scale models. The Lama is an excellent candidate for conversion to electric and we felt this should be an included feature rather than an after-thought. Modelers can buy either version and can purchase parts to switch the power plant.

We have invested a lot of time to fine tune the scale details and have extensively tested the precision three blade rotor head system. It looks fantastic and it is great to fly. In fact, we have created a scale model that we have always wanted to build, but didn't exist.

Well timed with the Lama release is the new Jakadofsky Starwood Edition turbine engine designed for this model.

Official distributor of Vario products.

Woodside, Calif., Jan 6, 2011 - Starwood Scale Models is happy to announce that starting Jan 1st, 2011 we are now an official distributor for Vario products and accessories.

We know customers always have a choice when buying their model products and Starwood has built a reputation for providing modelers with plenty of information before, during and after the sale. We employ experienced and knowledgeable staff to answer customer questions by telephone and email. Whether you are starting a new project or in the middle of one, we will do our best to assist you. If we cannot, we will certainly point you in the right direction to find someone who can.

At the beginning we have a modest listing with photos for all Vario products, which is subdivided into common categories. Over the coming months we will continue to expand on new categories and add details to our website to make browsing Vario products easier. There is already a wealth of detailed product information available on the Internet, including the Vario forum on RunRyder, where customers can post questions and receive responses from knowledgeable modelers and Vario field representatives.

Our business has always been about scale helicopters and the addition of Vario products continues with this tradition. We wish everyone a fun and prosperous 2011.

Starwood Development Symposium 2009

Woodside, Calif., October 23-25, 2009 - We kicked off the symposium with Peter Jakadofsky hand delivering to Al Wert the 150th turbine sold by Starwood Models. This is a significant milestone for Starwood as we are seeing an increasing demand for Jakadofsky turbines as customers are now starting to focus on engines with higher reliability and proven performance over other turbine systems currently available for use in model helicopters.

Read the Symposium 2009 complete article. A near perfect mix of experience, theory, craftsmanship, two machining experts, and four master modelers, all together for three days to exchange ideas and discuss current and future applications for the Jakadofsky turbine engine in scale and model helicopters.

Woodside, Calif., June 22, 2009 - We are returning to worldwide direct sales for the Starwood fuselage product line. In recent months we have released the Odyssey 3.2 turbine helicopter with a completely new rotor head system. The new head and control system has vastly improved the in-flight stability and is very adjustable from scale to highly-aerobatic flying styles.

Each month we continue to add to the information and common replacement parts for the Starwood fuselage line. If you do not see an item listed, please contact us for additional details.

Happy building and flying!

Starwood Fuselages are back in production

Woodside, Calif., Mar 16, 2008 - We are now back in production of the Starwood scale fuselage line. After considerable effort, we are very confident in our results that each fuselage is built with care and attention to detail that ensures each customer receives a high quality fuselage.

Most fuselages are in stock and are made to order with a turn around time of 3-4 weeks if you happen to order during a busy time of the year.

Happy building and flying!

Starwood acquires Scale Fuselage Line

Woodside, Calif., August 13, 2007 - Starwood Scale Models is pleased to announce that we have acquired our own scale fuselages and will be producing this superior line of fuselages from within the United States within a short time.

In addition, Starwood Models will continue to develop and provide mechanics sets which, when combined with a Jakadofsky Turbine provides an excellent, reliable mechanics package for larger turbine powered models up to 50 pounds.

Our fuselages are known throughout the model helicopter industry as the source of some of the finest scale fuselages available in the world today. Sadly, Len has decided to retire from his life-long business of crafting scale fuselages for the modeling community.

There will be a short delay in the manufacture of fuselages while the production facilities are moved to California. Please be patient during this time of transition. We hope that this relocation will reduce the time and cost to produce and ship the fuselages. We seek to offer the best possible fuselage kit at the best possible price. All of our fuselages will soon be available again.

Starwood Models would like to thank you for your support in our first four years of business and we hope to continue helping the modeling community by providing access to some of the best scale products available worldwide.

Happy building and flying!
